HBCD (Healthy Brain Child Development)

Overview

The HEALthy Brain and Child Development (HBCD) Study is study that will recruit and collect information from a large cohort of pregnant individuals and follow them and their children through early childhood. The study will collect information beginning at birth and continuing through early childhood. The study will collect various kinds of data including structural and functional brain imaging; anthropometrics; medical history; family history; biospecimens; and social, emotional, and cognitive development.

ICS' Role

WashU serves as one-half of the data coordinating center, along with University of Minnesota. ICS provides project management for the EHR pipeline. Additionally, Steve Austin, of WashU, has written template queries for EPIC sties. All the participating institutions in the study that use EPIC will be using these templates to extract EHR data at their respective sites in a "standardized" manner. ICS helps to support all other sites (Cerner, Athena, etc.) develop scripts specific EHR.
Tier 2 sites are the sites/sub-sites/institutions who have the capability to run extracts from their EHR. Tier 1 sites are those that will have to request the medical records and manually abstract the data into RedCap forms.
